Once the washer door is closed the washer can begin operating.

When using one of these cycles the door will remain locked until the cancel button is pushed. Thank you for your inquiry. Front loaders have a locking mechanism to avoid opening the door during a washing cycle but occasionally this lock will be activated accidentally. The door should unlock after 60 seconds.

Run a drain and spin cycle. The door may immediately unlock. Door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. During this period you will be able to hear the pump running.

The lid lock is a default feature of your maytag front loading and top loading washer to prevent opening the appliance while the cleaning cycle is in progress. You may also see an f8 e1 error code. If the washer was powered on before being connected to water the door may be locked and it may go into a drain mode. If not then your main control board will need to be replaced.

Nothing else will appear to be happening with the machine during this time. If the washer will not unlock at the end of a wash cycle unplug the washer or disconnect power. Pull on this tab to manually unlock the door. If the washer does not unlock at the end of a wash cycle unplug the appliance or disconnect power.

If the washer has an f8 e1 error or lo fl error the door will be locked and the control will be unresponsive. Reconnect power to washer plug in. Wait approximately 2 minutes for control to reset. Pausing the wash cycle is how it can be disabled.

Now you can reach down to the bottom of the door latch where there is a 1 round plastic tab. If the door lock is defective the washer door will not latch properly. The door lock led light will blink. After 8 minutes the door will unlock.

Plug the washer back in and hopefully the board reset. The washer will go into a hold and drain routine for 8 minutes.
