This disengages the electric drive from the door and you can manually open and close it. If you experience a lose of power while your door is in the up position please call your local overhead door company. It will snap under the load. Step 2 will allow you to freely move the garage door open and close.

On most garage door openers there is a rope with a handle on the end usually red. Pull the emergency release cord toward the door. All electronic or automatic garage doors have a bypass that will allow you to open it manually. Take care when operating the manual release when the door is open as it may.

This manual release handle disengages the trolley from the attachment point to the rail. Do not try to pull the door using the manual release cord. Pull the red cord down firmly once to manually release the door s locking mechanism the opener will make a clicking noise. To manually open most garage doors you simply pull a corded handle that is attached to the door.

Pulling on this rope will put the garage into manual mode so if the door is up it might come crashing down.
